On April 18 and 19 the second of five »Globeboot Festivals« took place on »Stadtparksee« in Hamburg. One week later boats, tents and the crowd moved on to Berlin. Ten thousand outdoor-enthusiasts came to try 80 boats and visit over 100 tents. They enjoyed two days of bright sunshine and had fun at the many side events.
Globetrotter Ausrüstung, Europe's largest supplier for outdoor-sports, has proven their talent in organising events many times before at the festival series that take place right at the start of the paddling season each year. This time however, it seemed they had a direct connection to the weather gods. Few times before, the visitors of »Globeboot Hamburg«, the largest of five testivals, could enjoy the sun beaming down in full power. Thanks to high »Reinhild«!
The location at the »Stadtparksee« turned out to be perfect for the event. 100 tents of any shape and color were put up on the lawn nearby, as were two high ropes courses, a lumberjack camp and dozens of information desks on many different outdoor topics. Also catering was provided for the visitors. The major attraction nonetheless was made up by 80 boats of different brands. Often the manufacturers themselves were present to give information on their products. The morning was used by many experienced paddlers while in the afternoon beginners dominated the scene. Some of whom could not help it and test the boats end-stability to more than 100% — no problem also: Swimmers where quickly fished out of the water by the safety-crew. On shore the Globetrotter Team took care for the dry up.
Those who did not want to paddle themselves — or could not find a suitable boat because of the great rush — could gather theoretical information on canoeing or watch many paddling demonstrations such as a canoe polo match, flat-water freestyle or sea-kayaking rescue techniques. Paddling resistant visitors could enjoy different activities in the lumberjack camp, try freshly cooked outdoor meals prepared by the Globetrotter apprentices, test their personal limits on the high ropes courses (one for big boys and girls, one for little ones) or ride the automatic Tatonka rodeo bull.
If you missed out on the Globeboot in Hamburg, there is no need to grieve! In May the Globetrotter Stores in Köln and Dresden ask round to »sit-down-and-paddle« on »Heider Bergsee« and the river »Elbe«. Only the good weather cannot be assured in advance.
