Werner Team Paddler, Boyd Ruppelt checks in here about an upcoming Boy Scouting event that includes kayaking and canoeing.
This weekend, thousands of scouts are expected to take over Shelby Farms Park in Memphis, TN for the BSA Centennial Expo and a weekend of outdoor activities, exposure to new sports & hobbies, and opportunities to earn new scout badges, most of which are expected to work their way through a Kayaking program at Patriot Lake. There will be demos and instruction in both touring and whitewater kayaking, including the a Kayak BSA course for the Kayak BSA patch. Shelby Farms is one of the largest urban parks in the country and is building into a model for "the new urban park" with the goal of being the greatest urban park in the country. I will be there instructing with Jackson Kayak'sSamantha Brunner, among others. This will not only be a large event for the Boy Scouts, but also a huge growth opportunity for paddlesports in the southeast.
Peace - Boyd Ruppelt
Thanks to you and Samantha for volunteering your time and energy to get kids involved in paddling.
