The Eddyine Brewery started a new beer today to raise funds and awareness for Buena Vista's long running and super successful special event, Paddle Fest, presented by Colorado Kayak Supply.

 

Eddyline Brewing Company had a beer in mind which was started today at the brewery by owner and operator of Eddyline , Mic Haynekap, and with volunteer help from Jenn Fisher the event organizer for Paddle Fest. They spent time together going over the recipe and how beer is made in a micro brew environment.  It is going to be a light and refreshing, and easy to enjoy pilsner style beer.  The name will be Boater Beer, to celebrate the character of the Arkansas River Valley,  which has been shaped by boaters ( or people who paddle) since the 1950's   It will be available at the Eddyline, and in several local and regional establishments and will be canned into 16 oz." to go" cans  in their new state of the art facility .   Boater Beer will also be private labeled as Paddle Fest Pilsner in the spring to help aid in the promotion of Paddle Fest in Buena Vista which occurs every Memorial Day Weekend.

Colorado Kayak Supply is hosting a huge kickoff party to celebrate the start of the summer paddling season. Join us for an action-packed weekend of fun and educational activities for paddlers of all ages and abilities.  Paddlers from beginners to aspiring competitors can rub elbows with paddling manufacturers, top athletes, and other industry pros during a weekend chock full of education, competitions, demo days, entertainment, gear shopping and camaraderie.

Be sure to look for Werner Paddles own Taylor Robertson and Danny Mongno hanging in BV at the shop, on the wave or on the running trail all weekend long.  See you there.

Werner Team Sup paddler Dave Boehne strong at the Hanohano Ocean Challenge.

We thought we new what we were getting when we asked Dave Boehne to join our team, one of the most progressive SUP surfers in the world.  However we are blown away with how strong he has come on in less than a year of training and racing.  Opening the 2012 California SUP season, with a strong field of racers on hand, Dave took a solid 4th place at yesterday's Hano Hano Ocean Challenge in San Diego.  We are really stoked to say that it was the West Coast debut of new Grand Prix race paddle.  (He used a bent shaft M1000.)  Congrats Dave and good luck as you prep for February's Hal Rossof Classic.

 

Photos- 4th Annual Cold Stroke Classic SUP race.

The 4th Annual Cold Stroke Classic SUP race, held at the Blocakade Runner in Wrightsville Beach NC, was an epic event with the highest racer sign up in the events history and the highest winds.  Over 130 competitors took to the water, which seemed to make sense with temps in upper 60's, however they were greeted to some serious wave action and for most the race sustained 38 mile an hour winds.

My hats off to the staff at Coastal Urge, the race organizer, for keeping things number 1 safe and 2 very under control.  (Considering how many racers were falling in the water and how many vendors and spectators were dodging boards and tents flying around on the beach.)  Coatal Urge owner, and Wrightsville Beach local, Jeoffrey Nathan called in some favors and tons of extra buddies were out in boats keeping people safe from the conditions and exhaustion. 

There was a great post race party at the Blockade Runner and the awards ceremony went off with people giving extra cheers, especially for the Recreational classes.  Everyone who finished this race was a winner for sure, it was really tough out there.  Werner Paddles gave away quite a few paddles for winners and we were proud to be there to see them up on the podium.

7th Annual La Ventana Classic, KiteXpo, and Paddle Royale

Our good friend Andrés Santacruz from mexkites.com let us know about a great Kite and SUP Event happening in La Ventana, Baja. The 7th Annual La Ventana Classic, KiteXpo, and Paddle Royale takes place January 15-22, 2012.  If you are lucky enough to get down there be sure to enjoy all of the races and parties in support of the community.  All profits from this event go directly to projects to improve schools and community projects.

Photo of the Day-SUP a snow sport??

Too bad this one is came with no name because this paddler they really did capture a great photo.  They did explain there were some Werner Paddles in the snow covered ride and they were pretty bumming because this was sent from NORTH CAROLINA!  The weather man played a serious trick on south east paddlers this week, bringing in the New Year with easy SUP temps in the 60's one day and then slamming the door shut hard with snow and temps in the teens just a day later!!  Thanks for the photo!

Looking back at 2011 and Looking forward to 2012

When you look back a year it is much more than just 52 weeks, 365 days...It holds so many memories and emotions.  As you look back on 2011 we hope both your triumphs and set backs serve as a spring board to start yet another New Year.  From the family at Werner Paddles we want to first thank our customers for all your support over the years and of course in 2011, we can't do it wihout you.  For all of our friends out there may the start of 2012 open new doors to a great future.  .

Werner SUP Team paddler, Dave Boehne, reports from the San Diego winter race scene.

On December 17th Werner team paddler's Dave Boehne and CD Kinley made the hour drive south from Dana Point to San Diego to compete in the San Diego Canoe and Kayak clubs winter race, the Tecolote 5000.

"Team Werner had a great race during this Holiday Season at theTecolote 5000.  It's kind of a fun format because you compile points from 3 different events, SUP distance, SUP sprint and prone paddle board sprint,  to crown an overall champ. I ended up taking 1st overall. I surprised myself, along with others who had actually trained, with the Prone victory it was my first time ever on one! Stoked! CD did well in his age group and being his 3rd race was stoked with his result as well...
